My husband and I enjoyed it so much we play it even without the kids. The game gives you the opportunity to spend the money you earn on different instruments and style. Now when the kids come over they just have to bring one gituar and then all four of us play. We had a riot with it so my husband and I went out and bought it as well. My children are grown and have little children of their own. I highly recommend it to people of all ages. The song list is extensive, and you can play it on different levels Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert and there is also a 'no fail' you can play songs on to learn how to play it. We never played the original version Rock Band, so I can't really compare it to the last one.
If your band name isn't 'acceptable' you can't get into play the challenges. We just picked up Rock Band 2 Classics to have more of the songs we grew up with, but leaned a lot of new songs from Rock Band 2 as well. We get together on Saturdays and one weekend they brought over Rock Band 2 for the PS3. There are challenges as well as different sets in different venues, to get into the challenges you have to make sure the band name you select for your band is considered a 'good' name. All of the equipment is still in great shape and is working fine. We have had it for several months now, and play it every week and just don't have any complaints. We have a great time with this, just the two of us, or with many other people. I know it help keep my mind alert and working.
Okay, so despite a few hours of my time and a few weeks without a guitar, that was fine. After my guitar had broken, however, I had moved to drums, and after only a few weeks of playing the drums, the foot pedal was broken at the joint. I had already played the game before (as well as guitar hero and rock band 1) and knew what I was getting, however the simple fact of the matter is that the instruments don't last. After calling EA I've learned that I have a great option for that too. Bought through Amazon (as a birthday present, and that's the bad news. The 60 day warranty which already doesn't cover much becomes even less when you factor in the time bought ahead of the birthday) and within 2 months of playing, the guitar was broken, which prompted a very LONG set of calls first to amazon, then to EA, to finally get them to agree to replace the guitar. I can buy a brand new pedal (the one that broke in a few weeks) for the great price of $25.So the bottom line is the same as most reviews. The game is fun, it's exactly what I thought it was, but they need to work on making instruments that work before they release a sequel.
I don't like that the microphone is NOT wireless. This is a very fun game. It can be a bit inconvenient. It gives you a lot of options, you can go on tour, play with just your family or friends, or you can play online. The guitar and drum set are both wireless, definitely a pro. This drum set doesn't come with the cymbals; you have to buy them separately, whereas the Guitar Heroes drum set comes with the cymbals. Besides that, the game is so much fun, especially when you have nothing better to do on a Saturday night.
That makes it a good socializing game. Moreover, if you sing out of tune or off beat, nobody will know. THE GOOD- Lots of interesting songs.- Up to 4 people can play as a band at the same time. So, basically, you're singing along with the singer from the game. Overall, it's worth playing because of the drums, the socializing aspect and the chance to learn to sing your favorite songs. THE BAD- The singing is the weakest link of the game. As a result, the audience will barely hear your voice.
- If you know how to play an electric or acoustic guitar, you won't like the feel of these game ones. They are two guitarists, one drummer and one singer. That's not good when you're competing with other groups. At least the sing-along can help you learn to sing the songs you like. It's because there's no Karaoke version. However, your voice is always drowned out by his voice. They don't feel like real. I'll give it 5 stars when it has extra Karaoke tracks.
We were certainly skeptics of the whole faux band phenomenon. Hundreds of hours of playing have proven us wrong (though we were sold in the first ten or twenty). The game is addictive and amazing. Whether playing at home or inviting online "musicians" to our band, every night playing this game guarantees us hours of fun. Don't be surprised to find that it's not quite as early as you thought when you get around to looking at the clock.
